TUKO.co.ke got selected as a finalist at the WAN-IFRA Digital Media Awards 2026 in the category ‘'Best Use of Video’' for the material about Kenyans recruited into the Russian war against Ukraine.

August 2025

Legit.ng launched a free fact-checking campaign for young Africans aimed at helping them battle fake news effortlessly.

June 2025

Reuters Institute Report 2025 recognised Legit.ng together with TUKO.co.ke as the leading digital media companies by weekly online reach in their respective countries.

May 2025

TUKO.co.ke Copywriting Course (jointly with Legit.ng) is a finalist in Best Practice category at INMA Global Media Awards 2025.

August 2024

Briefly News won the African Excellence Award as 'Best News & Entertainment Platform 2024' by Mea Markets. It acquired the same title a year before, in 2023. Also, Briefly News became a finalist of the WAN-IFRA Digital Media Awards Africa 2024 in the category 'Best Use of AI in the Newsroom'.

Legit.ng is recognised as the world’s most trusted project at WAN-IFRA Digital Media Awards Worldwide for the Media Literacy Campaign. Earlier this year, the news website won in the same category at the Digital Media Awards Africa 2023.

Legit (ex-GMEM) launches a YouTube channel about animals Cuddle Buddies. Together with Rumor Juice, they are distinguished within the structure of the company in Esc Media – a video production oriented towards global markets.

Nigerian Legit.ng wins a Google News Initiative grant for implementing a recommendation system (ReCo) that improves user experience.

Facebook features Legit (ex-GMEM) in a case study about Instant Articles' success.

All media assets of Legit (ex-GMEM) become members of the United Nations SDG Media Compact.

December 2020

For the first time, Nigerian Legit.ng enters a list of top Facebook news publishers among CBS News, The Guardian UK, BBC, CNN, New York Post, and Forbes.

May-October 2020

Legit (ex-GMEM) starts its first charity initiatives – TUKO Drive Charity Initiative to help needy families in Kenya and a 230,000N grant for talented students in Nigeria. Since then, Legit regularly undertakes CSR activities.

November 2019

Ghanaian YEN.com.gh is named the Best Online News Portal at Accra's 2019 National Communications Awards.

2015

Legit (ex-GMEM) expands to Kenya and Ghana, launching TUKO.co.ke and YEN.com.gh.

2013

NAIJ.com (now Legit.ng) Facebook page becomes the first in Nigeria to reach 1 million likes (in the news & media category).
