Legit.ng is recognised as the world’s most trusted project at WAN-IFRA Digital Media Awards Worldwide for the Media Literacy Campaign. Earlier this year, the news website won in the same category at the Digital Media Awards Africa 2023.

All media assets of Legit become members of the International News Media Association (INMA) alongside New York Times and Washington Post.

June 2023

Digital News Report 2023 by The Reuters Institute of Journalism mentions Legit.ng and TUKO.co.ke as the most popular online news publishers by weekly online reach in Nigeria and Kenya.

Edutainment animation project Mr About starts airing on YouTube, joining Legit’s global video department Esc Media.

April 2023

Genesis Media Emerging Markets (GMEM) upgrades to Legit, reflecting its aspirations to become the leading media company in the world.

December 2022

Briefly News launches a Women of Wonder special project celebrating women who reached great heights in politics, business, the public sector, and culture. The project reaches about 4 million people across all platforms.

YEN.com.gh launches YEN Entertainment Awards to recognise and reward excellence in Ghana’s creative industry, collaborating with the most prominent artists in the country.

The Media Council of Kenya recognises TUKO.co.ke as the Most Visited News Website in Kenya.

Media monitoring company NewsWhip names Nigerian Legit.ng as the world's number one Facebook news media publisher above CNN, BBC, and Reuters. Kenyan TUKO.co.ke becomes number four, and Ghanaian YEN.com.gh is mentioned on the Top articles list.

Legit organises the first press conference of Ukraine’s President Zelenskii for African media.

Legit (ex-GMEM) launches SportsBrief.com, the first website to cover all sports news from Africa and worldwide.

October 2021

Legit (ex-GMEM) launches a YouTube channel about animals Cuddle Buddies. Together with Rumor Juice, they are distinguished within the structure of the company in Esc Media – a video production oriented towards global markets.

July 2021

Nigerian Legit.ng wins a Google News Initiative grant for implementing a recommendation system (ReCo) that improves user experience.

Nigerian Legit.ng is named as the Best News Website in Africa at the Africa Digital Media Awards 2021.

Facebook features Legit (ex-GMEM) in a case study about Instant Articles' success.

March 2021

All media assets of Legit (ex-GMEM) become members of the United Nations SDG Media Compact.

December 2020

For the first time, Nigerian Legit.ng enters a list of top Facebook news publishers among CBS News, The Guardian UK, BBC, CNN, New York Post, and Forbes.

May-October 2020

Legit (ex-GMEM) starts its first charity initiatives – TUKO Drive Charity Initiative to help needy families in Kenya and a 230,000N grant for talented students in Nigeria. Since then, Legit regularly undertakes CSR activities.

November 2019

Ghanaian YEN.com.gh is named the Best Online News Portal at Accra's 2019 National Communications Awards.

2015

Legit (ex-GMEM) expands to Kenya and Ghana, launching TUKO.co.ke and YEN.com.gh.

2013

NAIJ.com (now Legit.ng) Facebook page becomes the first in Nigeria to reach 1 million likes (in the news & media category).
